Teaching is Engaging
“In learning you will teach. And in teaching you will learn.”
Phil Collins was right. Teaching is so mesmerizing that it can give you the best learning experience ever.
The first time I said yes to the offer to become an expert for social media online class at Vokraf, my head was filled with hesitation. Can I commit? Can I deliver the materials properly? What if there were questions that I couldn’t answer?
I plucked up my courage and agreed to join the program. Then, the rest is history. I learned some good things from teaching sessions that I had at Vokraf.
Public speaking was the first skill of mine that then was strengthened during my time as an expert. To see many different faces every week and encounter many kinds of questions about social media, it really influenced me on doing public speaking. I gained my confidence. This made me able to speak more fluently and build conversation with people.
Being an expert for a looping class like this, would also test your commitment. To stay in front of your desktop every evening, including Saturday sometimes, could be considered as a challenging task. You will sacrifice your best-college-buddies reunion, a high school friend’s wedding, and even one to two family agendas. But believe me, those were then eventually paid off. This is a good way to train how to escalate your commitment to any good thing that surrounds you at the moment. And yes, to commit to something you truly believe, it feels so rewarding.
The last but the most important one, teaching the same subject every week for 9 months, will automatically empower you with more bullets for that exact topic. There were many intriguing questions from participants that drove me to dig deeper about social media. From short questions such as, “What is a follower?” or “Is Tokopedia a social media app?” to a more complex one like “How to determine our strength in social media compared to our competitors?” Those questions alarm me that after more than 5 years of running social media as a job, I still haven’t touched the seabed of this subject. So, I really did learn when I taught.
So, as the class is over at the moment, I just want to reminisce about everything I attain from 6 to 9 pm almost every day. My special gratitude for the team of Vokraf for enriching my experience with this program.
In the end, just like all popular social media contents out there, teaching is also engaging.
